Land Rover LR2's for sale
Land Rover had some success with the Land Rover Freelander in the late 1990's but it came time for the model to get updated in North America and part of that update included a new name, which became the LR2.
When looking at the LR2 you will quickly notice that it's a fine looking vehicle with nice lines. It's got enough Land Rover styling to make it look distinctively Land Rover, but is unique enough to be different in it's own way. If we were to compare it to another Land Rover, we could say that it's a baby Land Rover Range Rover Sport.
Once you step inside the LR2 you know you're in a Land Rover and not some cheap imitation. It's got plenty of luxury and functionality as well as an impressive cargo capacity. There's easily enough room for 5 adults with fairly generous legroom. The dashboard is clean, but if you opt out of the optional navigation system, you'll be left with a strange hold in the middle of the dashboard that looks somewhat odd. Other than that, we can't fault the design as it's clean and all the controls are easy to use. It may not be the most innovative interior design, but it gets the job done.
For such a nice vehicle to drive on the highway and city streets you would never guess that it can handle itself when the terrain gets a little muddy, wet or rough. It's quite capable of heading offroad when the time comes and has plenty of ground clearance making it through some pretty rough terrain, yet providing a surprisingly comfortable ride at the same time. The all wheel drive system is an integral part of it's ability to drive through mud, water and snow with ease and allows for great traction on wet roads. The Hill Descent Control system that is known on Land Rovers has been added to the Land Rover LR2 giving it yet another great feature to improve handling when going downhill on slippery terrain. A number of other systems all work together to make sure that the driver remains in control of the vehicle at all times.
When driving on the highways there's plenty of power for passing with a 3.2L L6 engine under the hood. When compared to it's predecessor – the Freelander, the LR2 is a much nicer vehicle visually but is also more capable off-road and overall a more luxurious SUV. Towing capacity has improved over the Freelander as well, giving it a capacity of 3500 pounds, which should be enough for a small boat, personal watercraft or a trailer. When compared to other small luxury SUV's like the BMW X3 or Acura RDX, the Land Rover LR2 wins hands down in the off-road and ruggedness department.
For those who like to dress up their vehicles, LR2 accessories are available that can make the vehicle more functional and for audiophiles, an impressive 14 speaker stereo system is available which includes a DVD navigation system and satellite radio.
